It's my New Year, time for new beginnings.
I used to go for occasional walks in the woods but after our dog Jack came to live with us, this became a daily routine. He has seen to it that we get out every day, rain or shine, 95 degree heat or noreaster, no matter the weather, we're walking somewhere! I've grown to love these daily outtings in the woods with my dog and my camera. I notice something new everyday, hoof prints of deer or moose that passed through during the night, other times the song of an unfamiliar bird, signs of bobcat marking it's territory for mating season (yes, we have bobcat here, seen them in the backyard!), or the first day the pink lady slippers open, which I'll post photos of later.
This time of year all the wildflowers are beginning to sprout and send out their beautiful miniature blossoms. I had to share a couple photos I took this morning. Both of these plants were no more than 3" tall. I glanced through my Vermont Wildflower book and could not identify either of these flowers. If anyone knows the name of these, please tell me! I love the blue color of the flower in the top photo!
Little tiny fern fronds just beginning to unfurl in the photo below. Oh, happy spring!
